Irish broadband users reached 1.69m in 2014; 45.4% of users received 30Mbps speeds in 4Q14

Irish regulator ComReg has released its report for the fourth quarter of 2014, noting that the country’s total broadband subscriptions reached 1.692 million at 31 December 2014, an increase of 0.2% year-on-year. In terms of fixed broadband access platforms, VDSL saw the most growth, increasing 170.5% y-o-y to reach 201,633 active subscribers in Q4 2014. Meanwhile, cable modem usage increased 7.4% y-o-y to end the year with 366,554 subscriptions, with ComReg suggesting that ‘some or all’ DSL connections (down 10.1% to 630,546 y-o-y), had migrated to VDSL.
